Taiwan Day 3: Chillin' at Shilin

I think by the third day, we were pretty tired. By 'we', I guess I'm just referring to myself since Darren still went to the gym in the morning haha! Was supposed to head to 九份 (Jiu Fen) on this day but because I woke up late, we decided to go on another day instead and maybe just chill out around the XMD area. It was drizzling in the afternoon too so luckily we didn't head up to Jiu Fen.

I wanted to try a mini individual hotpot so we went to a random one in XMD. A lot of the restaurants in XMD are located on the second level above shops so you really have to be on the lookout for windows upstairs to see what restaurants are around. Didn't get the hang of this :(

So happy after the gym

Rain rain

I ordered the Japanese soup base and Darren got the meaty hotpot. It was alright. I think I enjoyed the drinks more than the food.

Then we walked around some more, stopping for a bit to shop before I wanted to try some dessert. Initially wanted to try this particular cafe which I spotted the night before. It had hanging seats and looked very garden-esque but we went to the wrong one! This's what happens when cafes are located on the second floor...

Can't read for nuts

Lychee Soda

Got some fortune thing from the round toy behind. Both of ours were super good ;)

I had tiramisu and Darren had chocolate cheesecake. To be honest, I don't think I'll ever go back there for dessert.

Then we headed back to the hotel to decide what we wanted to do next. And we decided on Shilin! I was so excited because the previous time I visited Shilin years back, I bought so many things and had such a great time trying all the different kinds of snacks.

Busy on his phone as usual -_-

Pardon our lack of photography skills. It's as if I just cut and paste our bodies into every photo. Like, my face and a background to show it's Taiwan. Sigh...

We went into this store selling men's apparel because D was being silly brave and wore a tank top there when it was so windy. So I told him to get a cardigan because nope I'm not taking care of a sick person especially when my birthday is the next day. The sales staff were ooh-ing and ahh-ing over his body, and actually a guy did most of the ooh-ing and ahh-ing while helping D try on cardigans. He was literally helping D wear the cardigans O_O

I was standing around trying to blend into the walls because it was so awkward. Then the guy realized my existence and asked if we're a couple, and if I loved men with muscles. This never gets old.

你好壮哦!太壮了啦 blah blah

AND WE HAD THE LEGENDARY AH ZHONG MEE SUA. I'D LOVE TO HAVE THIS RIGHT NOW! It was tons better than the XMD outlet. Added too much chili into mine but still finished it because it was so.good.omg. It was that good Mr Picky Eater got himself his own bowl!

Bought some drinks and snacks before taking a taxi back to XMD for supper. D was in love with the braised pork rice this particular store had but it was closed by the time we got back. So we had to settle for the one next door, which wasn't as good sadly.

Okay I just realized we did takeouts too! I'm allergic to MSG and judging from my body's reaction to the fishball soup above, it definitely had too much MSG in it.

I didn't buy much at Shilin. D bought tons of clothes from this store called Fifty Percent. It was so cheap compared to Singapore's prices. He probably bought like 9 outfits from that place while I got 2 miserable dresses. I was more focused on the eating part, and it was sooo worth it. Oh and he got such great service from them because they were so helpful in getting him a new piece for every single clothing item and constantly checking back to see if they fit okay. On the other hand, when I asked for a new piece, this guy gave me the once over, saw D standing next to me, and said no. Story of my life.

Can't think of how to end this now because all that's in my mind is the mee sua at Shilin T_T
